PILED RETAINING WALLS

North Piling can offer contiguous or secant piled retaining walls.

Contiguous piled walls are installed using rotary bored or CFA methods. Depending upon ground conditions, we are able to construct contiguous piled walls to a diameter of 1500mm to a depth of 32m and secant walls to 1100mm diameter to a depth of range of up to 24m (female pile) and 60m (male pile).

Our civils team can also construct a capping beam on top of the retaining walls.

Contiguous Piled Wall

Contiguous piled retaining walls are created using either Rotary or CFA piling methods, piles are installed at close centres with small gaps between each pile. These piles form temporary or permanent support for excavations.

This method is suitable for basements, underground structures and motorway cuttings where working space is limited or adjacent to existing structures.

Secant Piled Wall

Secant piled retaining walls are created using either Rotary or CFA piling methods, un-reinforced female piles are installed at close centers using a slow-gain (soft) concrete mix, after a sufficient curing period and once each alternate pile has been installed, the male piles are installed (using a standard concrete mix with steel reinforcement).

The male piles overlap the female piles which ensures that water ingress is minimised and fines wash-out is prevented. The interlocking secant wall is not water tight, however water flow is greatly reduced. These piles form temporary or permanent support to excavations. This method is suitable for basements, underground structures and motorway cuttings where working space is limited or adjacent to existing structures.

Pile Design Service

We use an award winning specialist pile designer who is equipped with state of the art geotechnical and structural engineering design software who assesses each project and the ground conditions on site to select the most efficient and cost effective method of piling.

The specialist designer can also complete full foundation design packages whether that is ground beams, pile caps, slabs or retaining walls. This is a personalised service we offer to our clients, whether you already have certain aspects completed by the structural engineer or if you need the full design from scratch we can help.

Upon acceptance of a project the specialist designer will provide a full detailed design package which is covered by £5m Professional Indemnity insurance.
